The Pink Star, at 60 carats the largest flawless fancy vivid pink diamond in the world. Last week it sold at auction for $83 million.
That’s a little over $100 for every man, woman and child in San Francisco. If the city of San Francisco had won the auction I wonder how many San Franciscans would have been unable to come up with a measly hundred bucks to pay their share of this one admittedly breathtaking little rock?
Many thousands, I’d bet. Call me crazy, but something is wildly out of balance in this world.
