That’s NYPD Officer Luis Vega winding up and then punching homeless Ehud Halevi, one of many punches delivered by Vega and Officer Yelena Bruzzese (background) during a savage and unprovoked beating. The officers were attempting to arrest Halevi for trespassing despite his having permission to sleep in the community center where the incident took place. Go watch the video - it’s chilling:

Let’s face it, people: our police forces have become savage, unaccountable brownshirts who brutalize those they “protect” with impunity. A day is fast approaching (indeed, it’s already here) when none of us will be safe from such treatment. And when such viciousness is inflicted upon us we’ll have no recourse. Halevi was lucky enough to have his treatment on film, and has thus attracted champions to fight the injustice to which he fell victim. Without this evidence he would be facing one felony and three misdemeanor charges; the police would have followed up this beating with years of jail time if they could have. They certainly tried to, and only this film got the charges that Vega and Bruzzese made up against Halevi dropped.
Many, many, many others have not been, and will not be, so lucky.
